| Customer Reviews: Handsome watch but very heavy and temperamental April 19, 2008 canon snapper (South West England) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I own a Casio G-Shock radio controlled solar watch which does everything it should perfectly. Nevertheless I decided I wanted another watch - one that was better looking but still had solar power and atomic timekeeping.
And so I looked around and bought the WVQ-620DE-1. First impressions were good. It is certainly a handsome watch, has a real quality feel and the face is pretty clear and easy to read. But once I got it out of the presentation tin things started to go wrong. Firstly this watch is big and very heavy. Very heavy. I could live with that were it not for another, far more significant problem, which was that this watch seemed pretty reluctant to pick up the atomic timekeeping signal. My G-Shock will pick up a signal in virtually any location. It doesn't need to be near a window as the manual will tell you. It often gets left under a pile of clutter on the kitchen table and will still pick up the signal without any problems. This watch seemed to have great difficulty even when positioned exactly as indicated in the instructions.
My other reservation was that the watch is pretty unintuitive to use. So it went back to the shop for a refund.
Disappointing design from Casio January 4, 2009 E. Schilling (Norfolk, United Kingdom) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I wish I read more reviews before buying this watch. I am very disappointed with my purchase.
Pros:
- Looks okay, elegant. Feels solid and "comfortably" heavy.
- Solar
- Radio controlled
Cons:
- Radio control does not always work in the UK. Never worked in my frequent trips to Italy, France or Spain.
- It ran out of charge under normal use during dark winter days. I had to leave it recharging by my window for a (full? partial? who knows!) recharge.
- Operating Mode Selection extremely annoying to use.
- Alarm setting is shown by the main handles, they only move forward, very slowly, like an analogue watch (not separate motion for each handle). It is a nightmare to check alarm setting, let alone change it to an earlier time for example.
- Similarly, Dual Time function also takes ages to show alternative second time and then even more time to return to standard time. You are better off calculating the dual time yourself instead of fiddling with this watch.
- It is virtually impossible to read the minutes elapsed in Chronograph mode, minutes handle has an unacceptably poor resolution on its face and elapsed minutes is a guess.
- LCD display for date and function indicator is too small and has poor contrast, too difficult to read in daylight. Impossible to read in the dark as it has no back-light.
- Yellow LED face illumination is horrible and outdated. It also Auto-switches off in a blink, does not allow enough time to read the watch.
- Handles loose calibration (alignment) and require use of dedicated handle set function. (It happened 3 times in 8 months!).
- Functions cannot be interrupted. If you landed involuntarily on the alarm setting instead of the dual time, for example, you have to wait for the handles to go all their way to the alarm setting before you can move on.
Conclusion: Utterly frustrating watch! Do Not buy it!
